Richard Flanagan special edition now on display

The National Library of Australia has acquired a unique version of Richard Flanagan’s novel, The Narrow Road to the Deep North. This special edition of the book, which won Flanagan the Booker Prize for best English-language novel in 2014, is now showcased in the Library’s Treasures Gallery.

This special edition was created by the skilled binder Sue Doggett and was gifted to Flanagan upon receipt of the Booker Prize. Later, the author donated the one-of-a-kind item to an auction organised by the Australian artist Ben Quilty, with the proceeds supporting the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). The winning bidder then donated the book to the National Library, which can now be viewed in the Treasures Gallery.
